Start with the game they actually play

Ask which style of Mahjong the recipient plays before choosing a set. A familiar holiday motif does not tell you whether the tile assortment matches their game. For an American Mahjong player, review the suits, Winds, Dragons, Flowers and Jokers, then check the complete contents against what their group uses.

Choose a Christmas story that suits their table

Compare all three tile measurements

Width, thickness and height each affect how tiles sit on a rack and feel in the hand. Measure the recipient’s existing tiles, or check the usable space in their rack. Comparing only tile height can miss a fit problem caused by thickness or the rack’s ledge.

The shared Christmas listing gives Blush Pink and Marble White dimensions of 0.94 × 0.39 × 1.42 inches, in width × thickness × height order. Merry Evergreen lists approximate dimensions of 0.90 × 0.55 × 1.20 inches. These are listing measurements; confirm compatibility when a close fit matters. Neither a color name nor a layered appearance establishes the material of another design.

Check what arrives, including accessories

Decide whether you are giving tiles for an established player or helping someone build a table setup. Someone who already owns racks and a mat may welcome tiles alone. A new player may also need accessories and the playing materials used by their group.
