How I Make Resin American Mahjong Tiles by Hand

How I Make Resin American Mahjong Tiles Around Your Style

When I begin a resin American Mahjong set, I do not begin by pouring resin. I begin with the back design. The pattern you choose becomes the direction for the matching tile body, side layers and base color, while the playing face remains clearly American Mahjong.

Mahla brings 17 ready-developed resin American Mahjong back directions together in one collection. You can start with an existing direction, then discuss a different decorative element, pearl or small-bead idea before production. Feasibility and any additional cost are confirmed first.

“The back is not a separate cosmetic choice. It sets the direction for the whole tile.”

01 · BEGIN WITH THE FINISHED IDEA

I first look at what the American Mahjong tile needs to become.

Before production, the chosen back has to work as a complete American Mahjong tile—not only as a flat pattern. I consider how the decoration, background color and edge treatment will read when the tile is held and turned.

02 · HAND PLACEMENT

I place selected beads one by one.

For a hand-beaded design, the pearl detail is not simulated with a printed dot. Each selected bead is positioned and checked against the artwork beneath it. RMJ-004 and RMJ-005 are the confirmed hand-beaded options in this collection.

The pink-dragon footage demonstrates the hand-placement operation; it does not mean every design includes pearls.

Hand placement · representative beaded design

A bead may look beautiful on its own but still needs to work with the scale of a 22 × 30 × 13 mm tile, the surrounding decoration and the clear layer that will protect it. I would rather confirm that balance before making than promise every idea without checking it.

03 · CLEAR SEALING STAGE

Then I seal the composition in resin.

Once the arrangement is approved and checked, the decorative composition is sealed into the tile. The clear layer changes how depth, light and small details read, so this step is part of the design rather than only a protective finish.

04 · SIDE AND FINISH CHECK

I turn the tile and inspect the layers.

I check how the finished back meets the selected tile body and side treatment. This is why choosing a back also determines its matching body, side layers and base-color direction.

Side profile and finished-tile inspection

It must still work as American Mahjong.

A decorative back should never make the playing face harder to understand. Our common American Mahjong face system keeps Dots, Bams and Craks distinct and also shows Winds, Dragons, Flowers and Jokers. The product page presents that front system separately so you can judge the face as well as the custom back and side.

A clearer way to choose handmade American Mahjong tiles.

Etsy is useful for discovering individual makers, but separate American Mahjong listings may use different materials, dimensions, set contents, shipping terms and levels of customization. Comparing the headline prices alone can therefore be misleading.

Mahla organizes 17 ready-developed resin American Mahjong back directions in one place, gives every choice a matching body and side direction, and separates finished samples from design previews. The promise is clearer choice and more predictable value—not that every Etsy listing must cost more.

These sets are not taken from finished inventory. Please allow approximately 4 weeks for making and 2 additional weeks for shipping. That timeline should be visible before checkout because it is part of the purchase decision.
